Rettward von Doernberg Confronts the Corruption of Wealth in His New Single “Is That Right”

Berlin, May 23, 2025 — With his latest release, Rettward von Doernberg once again turns to pressing political themes. His new single, “Is That Right,” tackles the uncomfortable question of how money continues to influence and distort global power structures.

“When a society functions well, it limits the influence of the ultra-wealthy,” von Doernberg says. “But that kind of protection is disappearing. Today, it's common to see powerful people openly shaping the world with their wealth. And no one stops them.”

The track is an intense fusion of genres: from neurofunk and drum and bass to distorted guitars and ethnic textures, underscored by layered male and female vocal elements. It’s a raw, cinematic piece that doesn’t shy away from its message.

Just like his recent projects, von Doernberg worked closely with AI in the creation of the track. But he’s quick to push back on the idea that AI makes music-making effortless.

“It’s not automatic. I spent ten hours sculpting this track. Without the help of AI, it would have taken a hundred. But the end result is just as intricate,” he explains. “The difference is in efficiency, not creativity. You still have to do the work.”

“People think AI handles the hard parts. But in truth, it gives you raw ideas. Shaping those into music takes just as much skill as ever.”

A Composer in Constant Motion

Rettward von Doernberg has been remarkably active in recent months, releasing a new track every week on his Bandcamp page. His work has long been heard across film, television, games, and live concert performances. He’s even conducted some of his own compositions.

Educated at the Musicians Institute and UCLA, von Doernberg studied with legendary composers including James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, and Hans Zimmer. Today, he combines that deep traditional foundation with modern tools—most notably, artificial intelligence.

“I don’t fear AI—I use it,” he says. “If you know what you're doing, it opens up completely new creative paths.”
